Priorities

Priorities USA, a super-PAC that's backing Hillary Clinton, accepted $200,000 in donations from a company holding contracts worth $976,560 with the Department of Defense for maintenance and construction projects at a Naval base in Newport, R.I., and the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.

Clinton's priorities are power and money. This PAC that supports her obviously agrees. This company isn't the biggest donor to the PAC, that title goes to George Soros who's donated (so far) $6,000,000. The PAC has donated $1,000,000 to Correct the Record which pays people to go online and disagree with social media users who say something negative about Hillary Clinton. (As far as I can tell, what it's mostly done is make everyone assume that anyone who defends her is getting paid to do so. It must make her actual supporters - assuming there are any who know how to internet - feel like chumps.)

What Can You Say About Brownies That's Offensive?

Police were called because a third-grader said something about brownies at his class's year-end party. Someone else thought it was "racist". After the police came, they called the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency.

Maybe I should have called this, "How to turn your student's parents into Donald Trump voters".

Brownies

1 1/2 sticks (3/4 cup) unsalted butter, melted
1 2/3 cups sugar
2 tablespoons water
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 large eggs
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
optional - 2/3 cup walnut or pecan pieces

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 13"x 9" pan or line the bottom and sides with non-stick foil or parchment paper, leaving some to overhang on the sides.

Combine the butter and sugar in a large bowl. Stir in the water. Add the eggs and vanilla extract and mix well.

Combine the cocoa, salt, flour and baking powder in a separate bowl. Stir it into the sugar mixture. Add nuts if desired.

Pour into the prepared pan and bake on the middle rack for 18 to 25 minutes. Cool in the pan on a wire rack. Cut into bars.

You're supposed to let them cool completely before cutting. I don't think that there's a single time in my entire life that I've been able to wait that long.

Palestinians Throwing Stones

Palestinians threw stones at Jewish worshipers at the Western Wall.
Police announced on Tuesday that the holy site would be closed to all non-Muslim tourists for three days in order to “maintain the quiet on the mount and to prevent rioting”
According to "Islamic officials", it was Israel's fault for letting non-Muslims (including Jews!) into the Temple Mount area.

Fact-Checking Clinton's Columbus, OH Speech

Going through the whole speech so you don't have to. It's a long article, but fortunately you don't have to worry about space online the way print newspapers do. Maybe that's why traditional media doesn't spend much time fact-checking her. They save space by having an article called "Things Hillary Said That Were True". Then, with nothing to print, they just delete the title too. Assume that any blank spaces in newspapers used to be one of these articles.

More of the Same

Liberal internationalism seems to have been dying for a while,” said Mark S. Mellman, a Democratic pollster who is not involved with the Clinton campaign. “But while that may be the animating philosophy of foreign policy intellectuals the world over, it is not the animating philosophy of America, nor of our domestic politics.”
Hillary Clinton is stuck in her old ways, unable or unwilling to adapt, but still, the NYT reminds us that a Trump election could possibly cause chaos. It's not clear what kind of chaos but they have to keep readers scared enough of Trump that they'll be willing to put up with the same tired business as usual from Hillary.

The best sentence in the article is:
Not many voters want a lecturer as president.
No kidding. That's what we've had for seven years now and it's wearing thin. It's not just that people are tired of lectures and scolding, people want a president who thinks that the US is great and its people are too.

Could a Brexit sentiment sweep Trump into office?

Does it help real-estate mogul Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, whose nativist, anti-immigration, anti-trade-deals campaign has channeled a similar current of anger among a large swath of Republican voters?
While there are similar sentiments at work, a presidential election isn't the same thing as a referendum but the feelings that the average voters have - that their needs aren't being considered is at work in both.

They deserve protection. You don't.

Diversity Will Plummet!

“If this court rules that the University of Texas can’t consider race, we know exactly what will happen: diversity will plummet, especially among African Americans,” Garre [lawyer for the University of Texas] said. “Now is not the time and this is not the case to roll back student-body diversity in America.”
I can't tell if he thinks poorly of African-Americans or of the university he represents.

Email Security is For the Little People

Tech staffers at the State Department temporarily disabled crucial security features on Hillary Clinton’s private email server in 2010 — leaving a trove of sensitive information vulnerable to hackers.

Republican Delegates Sabotage Trump

Dozens of Republican convention delegates are hatching a new plan to block Donald Trump at this summer’s party meetings, in what has become the most organized effort so far to stop the businessman from becoming the GOP presidential nominee.
The moves come amid declining poll numbers for Trump and growing concern among Republicans that he is squandering his chance to defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton.
The refusal of party members to get behind the nominee is more harmful than anything Trump is doing. They accuse him of squandering his chance while they sabotage it.

What We Need Is More Gun Control

This seems to be the answer that Obama and Clinton have in regards to the terroristic shooting in Orlando. The government needs to have more control over who has guns and what kind of guns they may have.

Side note: Omar Mateen had a government issued concealed carry permit and a security officer license.

Romney rips 2016 also-rans for losing to Trump

Romney's perceived unwillingness to fight to win in 2012 is one reason people are supporting Trump now. I think that Romney would have been an excellent president but during the election he seemed more interested in being seen as a nice guy than as a winner. Now there's a candidate who's more interested in being a winner than being seen as a nice guy.
As he has on previous occasions, Romney warned that a Trump presidency could have disastrous repercussions for the country.
He should have worried about what another four years of Obama would do to the country. Romney is just sounding like a bitter loser at this point, but perhaps I should have some sympathy for him. It must be hard being a professional politician watching the Trump train.

Weird How They Think That

A woman in France was screamed at by two men and hit by at least one of them for serving alcohol during Ramadan.
The incident has been seized upon by the far-right as proof of the spread of radical Islam despite attempts to impose secular principles that underpin the French state.

Which Candidate Said It?

When asked about who the candidate would hire for their administration:
I would want the best and brightest. Sexual orientation would be meaningless. I’m looking for brains and experience. If the best person for the job happens to be gay, I would certainly appoint them. One of the key problems today is that politics is such a disgrace, good people don't go into government. I’d want to change that.
Which candidate said that?

Racist/Not Racist

Guess which is which.
At the end of a lengthy exchange, Tapper asked: "If you are saying he cannot do his job because of his race, is that not the definition of racism?"
"No, I don't think so at all," Trump said.
Trump first broached these waters in an interview with The Wall Street Journal published Thursday, in which he said Curiel, who was born in Indiana, had an "inherent conflict of interest" in the Trump University lawsuit.
 And.
“Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences,” she said, for jurists who are women and nonwhite, “our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging.”
Both say that a judge's ethnic background can affect how he/she rules. Why is one acceptable and the other isn't?

Muhammad Ali is Dead at Age 74

The Greatest - January 17, 1942 to June 3, 2016.
“At home I am a nice guy: but I don’t want the world to know. Humble people, I’ve found, don’t get very far.”

After that quotation from Ali, I just felt that I needed to post that photo. Neither man has spent much time being humble.

When Dissent Becomes Illegal

A landmark California bill gaining steam would make it illegal to engage in climate-change dissent.
They want to make it illegal to disagree with them. Tell me again how Trump's the dangerous one.

Presidential Candidates Shouldn't Criticize Judges

Donald Trump Blasts “Mexican” Judge in Trump University Case
You know what’s presidential? Using 12 minutes of a campaign rally to criticize a judge who is overseeing civil litigation against your failed “education” venture. And that’s exactly what Donald Trump did in San Diego when he seemingly bored his audience with details about the ongoing case, specifically attacking U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel for being a “hater” and even speculating about what his ethnicity might be.
I remember when criticizing judges was presidential.

DePaul, UCLA, Where Next?

Disruption by protesters in Chicago ended the appearance by Milo Yiannopoulos at DePaul University on May 24. Tonight (June 1) his appearance at UCLA was ended by a bomb threat.

He's beautiful, he's witty, he has a lovely British accent, and he's gay. How correct does he have to be about things for the Left to overlook all of that and choose to hate him?

Rally 'Round

An NBC News poll shows Clinton and Sanders virtually tied at 49% and 47%. That makes the Washington Post story, Leading liberals begin new push to unify Democrats around Clinton, sound a bit desperate. Especially, when you read the article and the only "leading liberal" that they mention as a Clinton supporter is Jerry Brown and the NRDC Action Fund.

They also mention Elizabeth Warren, but she hasn't endorsed Hillary and has only spoken out some more against Trump. Weak stuff if the troops are supposed to be rallying around her.

Sexual Assaults in Germany

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about how Germany had created a website to teach immigrants not to rape or sexually assault people. It doesn't seem to have worked.
Three Pakistani men are already under arrest after 18 women filed complaints that they had been improperly touched, fondled and groped during the festival in the city of Darmstadt. Police have said the number of complainants could rise.

From the Criminals You May Know Section

An armed thug was caught following a two month violent crime spree when he was recognised by one of his victims after co-incidentally popping up in the “people you may know" section of his Facebook feed.
Omar Famuyide was one of two men who burst into the Ambassador’s Relaxation Suite on 13 July last year and assaulted women inside, threatening them with a metal bar and a handgun.
Relaxation suite = massage parlor, NTTAWWT.

The lawyer defending the mugger said that the firearm had been discharged in such a way with the least possible chance of the bullet hitting anyone. I'm sure that makes it all better.

Hillary Champion of Veterans

I think the problem here is the difference between what Donald Trump says and what Donald Trump does. You know, he's bragged for months about raising $6 million dollars for veterans, and donating a million dollars himself, but it took a reporter to shame him into actually making his contribution, and getting money to veterans’ groups. I, of course, over the course of my life, I've not only donated personally, but I've worked to provide hundreds of millions of dollars over time to help our veterans by what I voted for, what I've worked for.
 Of course.

"Over the course of my life" and "worked to provide" are weasel words that make it hard to pin down just what she's claiming to have done that she's comparing to the donations that Trump made just this year.  With that in mind, let's see what she's done this century.
