Old Woman Yells At Internet

Then someone in the crowd yells, "Pepe!" and gets thrown out of the rally by the Secret Service. She must have thought he was "the hacker known as 4chan" and was afraid he would release more of her deleted emails.

I Like You, But I Don't Like You Like You

A Utah apartment complex is trying to coerce renters into giving them positive feedback by way of Facebook likes.
Some tenants at a Salt Lake City apartment complex are fuming over a new lease agreement that requires tenants to “like” the complex on Facebook.
The contract requires tenants to friend the City Park Apartments on Facebook within five days, or be found in breach of the rental agreement, though some of the tenants already signed a lease agreement months ago.
You can't "friend" a business, you can only connect with it by clicking "Like" on its page.

This is their regular website. They must be feeling the blow back because their Facebook page says "content isn't available right now" but here's a screenshot of some of the cached page.

Remember When This Was Funny?

It was so funny! How could he be so wrong? Obama and Hillary were going to save Libya from itself by taking out Qaddafi.
"We came, we saw, he died". - Hillary Clinton
Then the world got to see what came after.

Facebook Trending News Stories

Liberal people first
I had barely noticed the "Trending" news stories on FB before the news broke that they were curated to promote liberal stories over conservative ones. I kind of feel like this was the point - no one was paying attention to the stories, now they are, whichever side of politics they're on.

Now, for fun (yes, this is what I consider fun, don't tell me how boring my life must be), I click the little "x" to the right of some of the news stories to "hide trending item". Then I get to pick among: I don't care about this, I keep seeing this, It's offensive or inappropriate, other, I want to see something else.

"It's offensive" is one of my favorite choices for the most inoffensive stories. T-Rex may have had lips that hid teeth - Offensive! Any story about celebrities - I don't care! Human interest or animal stories get "other" or "I want to see something else" because I'd feel too sociopathic if I picked "I don't care".

I guess I won't have a chance to use "I keep seeing this" unless they post a bunch of stories about Trump winning. I could use it if they posted a bunch of stories about Crooked Hillary or Bill Clinton's trips to pedophile island, but, seriously, how likely is it that they'll promote those stories?

Icon of Tolerance and Jew Hater

A young Muslim woman who took selfies in front of the Belgian right-wing and anti-Islam party Vlaams Belang was declared to be an icon of tolerance, fighting against Islamophobia.

Teen Vogue called her a total badass.
More than just being a badass, Zakia makes a remarkable point — racism is often just ignorance. Once these protestors experienced and got to know her vibrant spirit they immediately warmed up to her. We bet some of them even felt silly.
So cute, so sweet, so filled with love...

Well, maybe not for everyone.

Facebook Trending Topics

A reply from Tom Stocky saying FB doesn't manipulate the trending topics.

I've looked at the "trending topics" suggestions more often since this story broke than I had in all the previous years of using Facebook. This is what I see now:

All this does is confirm that I was right in ignoring it so far. While Google suggestions for me are almost creepy in their accuracy, FB suggestions are so far off from my interests, it's a bit reassuring in how little they know about me.

I'm Helping!

All over social media. The virtue signaling has begun.

I'm not making fun of everyone who has added the Belgian flag to their photo, just the ones who didn't notice there was a potential problem before today and will forget about it again in a week or two.

Uninstalling Facebook

A test by a reddit user found that removing the Facebook app and the Facebook Messenger app from Android phones made the phone launch other apps on the phone 15% faster. Other redditors also reported similar results.

A reporter for The Guardian found that removing just the FB app saved 20% of his battery life. He replaced the app with Metal, which still let him access Facebook.

Does it really make this much difference if you already close the app so that it's not running in the background all the time?
